a world beyond black and white terms

during the last weeks, months, or even years there have been more and more political and social discussions. it all started with the socalled refugee-crisis and because of the increasing number of that discussions which were everywhere around i felt obliged to inform myself more as i did before.
i must admit that i did not follow politics intensively before. so i started watching the news regularly, subscribed to some different newspapers and television news facebook pages and read some articles now and then in online newspapers. in doing this i more and more saw that this world seems to be full of pigeonholing and narrow-minded point of views and discussions, whether in facebook comments or in real life. and n o t only in the conservative and mainstream, but also in the scenes and clientels who always accuse the mainstream to be too one-sided. it seems to me that scarcely anybody is able to take a differentiated look at issues and to hold objective conversations. all this unsatisfactory debates reached their top now that the election is near at hand.

i remember that i already thought fairly critical or different when i was in elementary school. i sometimes was upset when teachers or classmates acted in a way that did not make sense to me. and in arguments between classmates i usually did not sympathize with the one who was my friend but with the one who i thought was neutrally right in that issue. being a teenager i was against the common system at school, in society, and against all mainstream, i could identify with the alternative left-wing scene for a while. i also had close contact to people in my personal environment who studied educational science so i learned much about communication, society, the world, life and myself. maybe it is the time to say thank you at this point.

however, after years has passed in the meantime i met many different people and i learned far more about myself. i got to know new perceptions, and i found that i am willing to distinguish their rights and wrongs. when i read an article i can agree with and a refering comment claims the opposite or critisizes it, i like to compare both sides, and find a conclusion which mostly includes aspects of both point of views. for me that does not mean to have no clear opinion (if i hadn't i would not have dealt with the pros and cons of this issue, and would just say "i can't evaluate that cause i don't know enough") besides of course the conclusion i draw also differs from issue to issue if i'm more likely to aprove or oppose something.
if someone disagrees with my opinion it is no personal assault for me. quite the contrary: there is nothing more important than to open objective dialouges to eradicate differences, conflicts and prejudices. there is the saying "a real democracy has to withstand all point of views" yes, i think there are no words needed. instead of accusing each other of being wrong maybe it is better to ask why someone thinks or acts in a certain way - so you can solve the difference more than by defamation or accusation.
although i am a very empathic and sometime sensitive person a am able to keep emotions out of discussions for i know they do not lead to constructive results.

with this blog i like to write down the thoughts on some issues that are floating around in my head from time to time
